Did You Know...

My daughter is reading Swiss Family Robinson and ran across a word we'd never heard of before, bustard.

Did you know that a bustard is a large game bird? It is a heavy, ground-running bird with a long neck and is found on open plains on every continent except the Americas. There are 26 species of bustards and they range in size from 15 in. to over 4 feet.

There are photos of all kinds of bustards here.

We looked up these birds in our "World Book Encyclopedia" and "Funk and Wagnall's Wildlife Encyclopedia". You can also find more information online at Wikipedia, Answers.com, Bird Life International and the Smithsonian National Zoo.

We learn something new every day!
